A year of open conversations: Celebrating the anniversary of our first publication
This week marks a special milestone for Scottish Universities Press. As we celebrate the anniversary of our very first publication, Conversations with Tim Ingold: Anthropology, education and life, we're delighted that this moment falls during Open Access Week, an event that echoes our core values and mission.
Beginning with conversation
When we launched Scottish Universities Press, we did so with a commitment to champion open, accessible and high-quality publishing, and we knew our inaugural publication needed to reflect this vision. Conversations with Tim Ingold fit the bill perfectly. Through dialogue and exchange, it opened up the rich thinking of one of anthropology's most influential voices, making complex ideas accessible and breaking down barriers through a conversational format.
What we’ve learned
Since our launch, we have grown, learned, and remained committed to our belief that scholarship should be open to all. Our catalogue is expanding, our partnerships have deepened, and our community of authors and readers has flourished. Scholarship is a conversation that should include as many voices as possible.
We've learned that there's tremendous appetite for accessible academic work. We've seen how removing barriers creates unexpected connections and sparks dialogues we never could have anticipated.
Open Access Week is a global event dedicated to raising awareness and advancing the open sharing of knowledge. For us, open access is a guiding principle. We believe that research should be available to everyone, everywhere without barriers and our approach ensures that critical ideas, innovative research and unique perspectives can have the broadest possible impact.
What’s next?
As we look back with pride on the publication of Conversations with Tim Ingold, we are energised for the future. As well as our upcoming books, we continue to work towards publishing our first open textbooks and creating the infrastructure to start publishing open access journals. Our commitment to open access remains, and we are excited to continue working with our vibrant academic community to publish works that inspire, challenge, and inform.
Join the conversation
To everyone who has supported Scottish Universities Press in this first year, by reading, citing, sharing, or championing our work, thank you.
This Open Access Week, we invite you to revisit Conversations with Tim Ingold and explore our growing collection of open access books. Share your thoughts, publish with us, and help us build a more connected, informed, and inclusive academic world.
Here's to many more years of open conversations.
