University of Aberdeen joins SUP
We are delighted to announce that the University of Aberdeen has joined Scottish Universities Press (SUP), bringing the total number of partner libraries to 20.
Open research is a core component of a positive, inclusive research culture at the University of Aberdeen, and forms a key part of their institutional Research Cultures Strategy. Simon Bains, University Librarian, said, “I’m delighted that Aberdeen has joined this partnership. Positioning libraries to enable the sharing of university research to the widest possible audience has been a significant part of my career for 20 years, and liberating information from behind the walls that exclude many communities is at the heart of our professional values as librarians. Our academic communities, influenced by their librarians, are now embracing openness as an attribute of a healthy research culture, and initiatives like SUP and Aberdeen University Press (AUP) provide a platform to support this transition. Joining SUP and continuing to invest in AUP reflects the University of Aberdeen’s commitment to openness as a way to enhance the integrity and reach of our research, strengthen public trust, and reinforce our commitment to responsible research practices.”
Hannah Whaley, Chair of the SUP Management Board and University Librarian and Director at the University of Dundee, said: “SUP has delivered a highly effective collaborative infrastructure for academic publishing. We are excited to be expanding our network to welcome the University of Aberdeen, following the successful launch of our first three titles and the extension of our publishing operations to include textbooks. Collaboration is key to addressing the significant challenges in the publishing landscape and to realising the full benefits of open access publishing, including cost savings for universities and free and equitable access to research.”
We are excited to start working with the academic community at the University of Aberdeen. Researchers can submit proposals to SUP for monographs, edited collections and textbooks. If you would like to discuss a potential proposal then please get in touch!
