SUP selects New Voices to pilot journals programme
We’re delighted to announce that New Voices in Classical Reception Studies has been chosen as the pilot journal for Scottish Universities Press’s new journal publishing programme.
New Voices was founded in 2006 and is a long-standing open access journal of international renown. The journal provides a supportive forum for research that reimagines the ancient world — welcoming work that crosses disciplinary boundaries, experiments with form, and brings forward voices that have historically been under-represented in the field.
By selecting New Voices as our pilot, we’re beginning this programme with a journal that embodies the values of openness, inclusivity, and intellectual curiosity. Our Editorial Board was also impressed by its commitment to mentoring early career researchers and maintaining transparent editorial processes.
Over the course of the pilot project, SUP will work with the New Voices editorial team to develop a publishing model that supports editors, reduces costs for institutions, and strengthens the global visibility of research.
Work will begin in late summer to migrate the New Voices archive from its current host, The Open University, to the SUP platform, which is hosted by the University of Edinburgh Library.
SUP is currently recruiting a freelance Journals Programme Coordinator to support the project, thanks to funding from the Scottish Library and Information Council’s Innovation and Development Fund.
We’re excited to begin this collaboration and to build a journal service that future journals can adopt with confidence.
