Editorial Board Vacancy - University of Edinburgh
A vacancy has arisen on the SUP Editorial Board for a representative from Constituency Group 1 – The University of Edinburgh. Our editorial board is drawn from researchers at participating institutions. The SUP model has been designed to ensure broad representation across institution types, using a constituency approach to allocate places according to institutional profile. Members are asked to serve a minimum two-year term.
This is an exciting opportunity to shape the direction of SUP and contribute to an innovative venture driven by the needs of the research community.
The role of SUP Editorial Board members includes:
Reviewing proposals and assessing suitability for publication by the Press.
Encouraging submissions and helping distribute calls for proposals.
The overall development and management of the peer review process. This will involve:
supporting the identification of suitable peer reviewers;
evaluating reviewer comments;
checking author revisions and making recommendations about final publishing decisions; and
ensuring that peer review is carried out ethically, following COPE core practices.
Advocating for the Press and distributing coordinated communications across relevant networks.
Bringing best practice to SUP by contributing to decisions on policies and processes.
Mentoring Early Career Researchers (ECRs) and supporting less experienced colleagues in gaining experience of working on an editorial board.
Assisting in the recruitment of further editorial boards as required as the Press develops.
SUP accepts books proposals in all disciplines and our Editorial Board members are asked to contribute to decision-making on all proposals submitted for publication. We are also in the process of introducing a journal publishing offer.
Expressions of interest in joining the Editorial Board should be submitted via the online form by Friday 19 June 2026. For more information about SUP, please visit www.sup.ac.uk.
